Arena Update January 2007

George Berger with the City of Newport, along with the engineers on the arena project, met last week with senior County of Orange Flood Control District staff;  they've required that we set up a formal MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between the City Council and County Board of Supervisors that establishes the operations, maintenance and liability of whatever we do on their property.  This is standard procedure.

The arena project group will is scheduled to meet with the Coastal Commission staff on February 6th.

The group has been very busy going over landscape concepts for the site and they continue to update the concept drawing. A project manager in the Public Works Department (Emmet Berkery) has been assigned to the project.  Emmet will carry the project from bidding to construction once we get through with the approvals.  We will look for updates from the group shortly after our Feb PAC meeting as they continue through the Coastal Commission approval process.

(2/7/2007) A handful of people that are encroaching on public property on Mesa Dr. in Newport Beach have decided they would rather not see the multi use trail completed to connect the equestrians and other trail users in our community to the county wide trail system. We need help from everyone of you, and everyone you know, in order to keep the trail we were promised. This trail is currently in the specific plan for Santa Ana Heights.

It now looks like we will loose our mesa trail unless we contact the city and the county and let them know again, that we want it.

Tell them you like the agreement except for the section discussing our trail, it's on page 4, it's Section 11 (C) and that you would like to see this section removed from the agreement. If you know anyone in Newport please encourage them to contact both the city and the County regarding this. As a resident of Orange County please contact the county board and Newport council to let them know that you do not want to see this multi use trail taken away from the Equestrian Neighborhood it was promised to. It does not belong in this cooperative agreement. It should stay on the Specific Plan for the Santa Ana Heights area of Newport Beach and should be completed.
